Hello,
I have read so many things and at this point, I am pretty confused. I have read that repeaters can reduce a signal by half and that to link two routers together requires that that they be hard-wired to one anthother. Here is the problem that I am trying to solve for a friend. My friend has a large home and is utlizing a CenturyLink Actiontect G784WN Router/Modem. The wireless works fine throughout the house, however, upstairs in the far area of the house, there is no connection. I do not have the ability to hard wire routers, etc. I do not know how the house is wired, so from my reading I understand that the Powerline can be tempermental based on the wiring of the circuitry in the house. I am trying to find out what (reasonable costs) I can buy to provide access and step by step instructions on how to do get everything up and running. Any help would be greatly appreaciated.

http://lifehacker.com/296367/boost-your-wireless-signal-with-a-homemade-wifi-extender i have made several cantennas and these realy do work if you have the antenna

I would really use that wifi analyzer first as all it does is show you the db of the signal as you walk around and I have helped several people with just moving there router maybe five feet or just adjusting the antenna and then it makes it through the whole house.

sorry to use a pcmag article but it does a quick and easy job if you want to get the extra equipment.

this seems to review pretty well on newegg and looks simple and cheap.

Splendid
i would download the wifianalyzer app for android and then see if you can move your current router to a place where the signal reaches the whole house before going to a more elaborate setup that will not be easily troubleshot by the user. I do tech support and I do not like it when people get more complicated than is needed, nothing personal I just know how frustrating it can be for an end user when there is more equipment than they know what to do with.

Hello, I was adding additional information, only to lose it. The home does have some RJ45 ports, however, I am unaware at this time if they are live. I will be purchasing a cable tester to see if they are live. This may be an important detail that may have been needed.

@fkr. Thank you for your comment. I would wholeheartely agree. he person is somewhat tech savvy, however, he just does not have the time to do it himself, so I wanted it to be a surprise.
