Three monitor problems

Hello. I am having some problems setting up 3 monitors. Windows will just not allow it, and my card has 4 display port ports. I have 3 Display Port -> HDMI adapters in the three monitors but I cannot enable the third monitor.
My card is the ASUS R9 280X (I'm guessing) Matrix. The reason I say it's the matrix is because it looks more like the matrix model than the normal version. Any help with this would be great. If you need more information, let me know. Thank you.

If you are using adapters for the display ports make sure you are using "Active" adapters. there is a difference between a basic adapter (cheaper) and active adapter! you need to have active adapters if you are using more then 2 monitors.

That is your problem IMO. thats not an active adapter. You can use them for up to 2 monitors but once you get to 2+ you need active adapters for ALL display ports. example is if you are using 1 dvid and 2 display ports then you need 2 Active Adapters. or 3 active adapters if you are using all display port.
here is an example of active display port adapter

What's the difference between them? Why do I need to have all 3 active? I'm just trying to get an idea of why they are for future reference.

Im not quite sure what the full difference is. here is a good forum on it http://
I had the same problem when i up graded my GPU. had 3 monitors but was only recognizing 2.
did some research and brought 1, then needed to buy another because one was active and the other was not. it sucked cuz it put me over my budget buying active adapters
hope that helps
