Hey guys. I have been playing around with remounting my H100i to get a better seat on the CPU. I ended up using ArcticSilver5 for thermal paste and went with an X-pattern application. I noticed that idle temps right away were slightly lower than my previous mount (by about 2 C and running in the mid to high 30's), but running a standard 10 pass Intel Burn Test still gets the CPU wickedly hot (90 C!!!). I am overclocked currently at 4.3GHz and have had no issues with BSOD or freezes or anything of the sort.

What might I be doing wrong...?? I understand that this thermal paste has a specific curing time, but this seems wildly high even though it has not cured fully.

Thanks in advance for your response!

Solution
Sounds like either you applied too much paste or not got a good connection from the heatsink to cpu.

You cant go wrong with the pea sized dot in the middle, the heatsink does the spreading for you.

Thanks for the responses guys. I ended up removing the cooler once again and remounting it with the same thermal paste but using only a dab in the center of the HS (I thoroughly cleaned both the cooler and HS with ArticClean to be damn sure). I made sure that I was careful mounting the cooler back on, so there should not be any issues there (no finger prints or foreign matter as I was wearing mechanics grade Nitrile gloves through the entire process....get some they are SWEEEEET). Temps are only a few degrees cooler now....I think I may have a bit of a dud processor.....I will give the paste the necessary time to cure just to be certain though.

I did notice that the cooler was slightly cocked to one side, but nothing too dramatic (flush on the HS but a little canted). I centered it the best I could this go around.
