CPU: Intel i7-3770 @ 3.4 GHz
Mobo: ASRock Z77 Extreme 4
PSU: Cooler Master 650W
Memory: Single channel 4GB
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bits
Video: nVidia GeForce GTX285 (1GB)

I am revising my system which I use for both software development (.NET) as well as gaming (Microsoft FSX).

I want to buy an affordable dual channel kit ($80 - $120) to have at least 8GB and then complement it with my current single channel 4GB module for a total of 12GB.

I have these two candidates but if there are others sold on Amazon please feel free to suggest them:

* Kingston Hyper X 2x4GB 1600MHz PC3 12800
KHX1600C9D3K2/8GX

* Corsair Vengeance Blue 2x4GB
PC3 12800 1600MHz
CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9B
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004QBUL1C

I am looking for CL9 memory kits.

Well, the dual channel kit goes in the proper slots for the dual channel behaviour. I assume that in the other pair of slots I can put either another dual channel kit or a single one without affecting the dual channel behaviour on the other set, or am I mistaken?

But if adding the single DRAM on one of the other two free slots would anihilate the dual channel then I would be forced to leave it out.

And if I decide to use 3 sticks (dual channel plus a single on the other one) would it result in performance degradation?
