Hello, I have recently encountered a problem in my computer. This PC is a custom rig my brother assembled in 2009, it's been good till last summer, I was playing TF2 and then suddenly the monitor gave me no signal, the speakers froze at the sound and kept repeating it and my tower was still on and wasn't off. I don't know the source of this problem, But since it comes when I am gaming I think it's a problem with my GPU sadly I don't know what is the exact problem

My PC: Graphics Card: ATI Radeon 4870
CPU: AMD Phenom II x4 940 Proccesor
RAM: 4 Gig
VRAM: 512 MB

Yea sounds like something froze up. Either windows or the game. Did you try doing a CTRL+ALT+DELETE? If you get the task manager or the selection screen (Vista and up) then its the game that is freezing up. If you don't something is causing windows to freeze up. Do you have all your drivers updated? mainly just the Chipset and Video Drivers. Don't worry about Nic or sound right now.

@drtweak, Nope can't start the task manager or even go to the selection screen. My video and chipset drivers are updated, this problem has become annoying. At first, it only appeared when playing games that needed graphics then it began showing on normal games that i can run easily. It's been recurring for the last few weeks and its driving me crazy.

Have you checked the GPU temperature? It may be overheating. If you are OC'ing your video card, put it back to stock. If it's neither of these, it's possible some of the VRAM is going bad which would require you to replace the GPU.

Bad VRAM can exhibit many problems, such as random garbage on the screen, torn images, or weird colors or color shifts. I don't knowof any actual utilities that can test VRAM, but a stress test such as 3DMark will usually force the video card to display any of the problems I just mentioned.
