AsRock Z77 Extreme4 Problems

Ok, so this afternoon I decided to change a case fan on my PC, since the old one was too noisy. After replacing the fan, though, the PC didn't turn on. The motherboard was completely unresponsive - no lights, no noise, nothing. It's possible that either the mobo is busted or the PSU is, but it's kinda unlikely since they're both only a few months old. I still have a valid warranty on most of the components so returning them or getting refunds probably won't be a huge problem but I'd like to have as little fuss as possible.

Any suggestions as to how I might be able to go about fixing it?

So far, I have tried:
-Removing the new case fan and replacing all the parts as they were originally
-The 'paper clip test' to see if the PSU fan would start (it did)
-Disconnecting the PSU from everything but the mobo and testing it
-Shorting the two pins that are involved in the power switch
-Letting it 'sit' for an hour unplugged
-Unplugging all of the front panel headers and shorting the pins

Any help would be hugely appreciated, thanks!

did you see any smoke or anything when you turned on the computer with the new fan in? I would think either something got knocked loose while you were changing the fan, or you shorted the fan somewhere on the board, nothing else makes much sense. Hard to see how a fan could even matter. If the old fan was just noisy it wouldn't have put feedback into the system to cook anything.

Nope, no smoke, no smell, nothing of the sort.
I thought something must have got knocked loose too, but everything seems completely connected.
Similarly, I don't think the fan is relevant, but without it I wouldn't be in this situation - maybe I pulled out wires before the power was off, or something stupid like that that might have caused problems?

I guess if you got to doing anything while the computer was still plugged in it could cause and issue, also if you shocked anything with your finger while trying to get to the fan it could tear things up, have you checked to see if the power button front panel header is loose? perhaps the reset as well? that would be my best guess, I also guess you could have simply messed up the power button on the case, try shorting the two pins that are involved in the power switch and see if that brings it to life.

I've tried shorting them, but nothing happens - I'm fairly certain that all wires and cables are plugged in correctly, since i had used it for a good 4-5 months before this.

really strange, unplug all of the front panel headers and try shorting the pins I'm hoping when removing the fan you goofed something on the front panel and that short isn't allowing you to power your system with things pluged into the front panel.

Both are in fully and correctly, unfortunately. In the end, I may just need to take it to someone to get it fixed, but that'll probably be pretty costly - in any case, thanks for all of your help!
