Hey there I need some help on how to utilise my budget correctly in order to build a
balanced system for gaming/graphic design/photography
note that I have an existing thermaltake case and a 750w PSU(both components date from 2008) from the existing system I am using.
Is it a good idea to keep them or is it better to buy new components.
I was thinking of buying a new
MOTHERBOARD
CPU
RAM
GPU
and let the rest of the components HD, PSU and the CASE as they are

my budjet is around 900 dollars/650 euros
My country of origin is Cyprus

I would also like to find out wether there is a service where you can get components shipped to

Cyprus from the states.. and if its a good idea to pull off something like that.

Solution

Yes there should be no problem running a R9 280x with a 750w PSU.

If you were just gaming I would say stay with 8gig ram but with what you are wanting to do I would push it to 16gig to be on the safe side.

I think either one of those GPU would work. But as far as GPU's and gaming go the higher end you can go the better really. So if you can get the R9 280x I would your games will thank you.

All said you need to find the right balance since...

Can't help you about shipping parts to Cyprus, but if your case and PSU work, I'd say re-use them. In my opinion, the only time you would want to replace the case pr PSU is if it's inadequate for your new system - maybe it's too small, or is too big. Or the PSU isn't powerful enough for your new components. Unless you're going to be running multiple power-hungry video cards, 750W should be more than adequate.

Since you're keeping your HD, which is perfectly fine, may I suggest buying a small solid state drive? Even a 60GB should be enough for your OS - if you get a bigger one, you can put apps or games on it. Once you see how fast your computer runs with an OS on SSD, you'll never go back. Promise.

thx for the advice!
If i buy components from Germany will it be safe? I am a bit worried with components especially the motherboard
and the GPU.. I dont want them to suffer any damage.
The prices in Cyprus are very high I'm afraid.

Question: is this a good system?
I was reccomended these components by a fella here in the forum earlier today
CPU: AMD FX-8320 3.5GHz 8-Core Processor
Motherboard: Asus M5A99FX PRO R2.0 ATX AM3+ Motherboard
Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory
and for a GPU i want to get MSI Radeon R9 270X Hawk

what do you think?

thx for the advice it was very informative
I like the idea of a responsive OS
Never thought of the SSD scenario
cheers

8GB of RAM is good if you're only playing games, but you mentioned graphic design and photography. I think if you plan to run other apps, especially large apps or apps that use a lot of memory like graphic design apps tend to do, you'll be pushing the limits of that 8GB. I do application development, and even having Visual Studio open, a few web browsers, maybe a few smaller apps open, and I'll reach upwards of 8GB. Now if I want to play a game without closing all of my stuff, I'll start paging like crazy. There's nothing wrong with paging, and I could learn to just live with it being slower when I've got a bunch of stuff open, but if your budget is elastic, you may want to consider 16GB. If your budget only allows for either an extra 8GB of RAM, or an SSD, I would choose the SSD over an extra 8GB of RAM easily. You can always go with 8, and if you do start paging and you're annoyed by it, you can always add another 8GB later on in the future.

will a GIGABYTE Radeon R9 280X be able to run with the 750W PSU?
I already decided to go with a 120GB SSD btw and have some extra cash either for getting a better GPU or adding another 8GB of memory
whats your opinion?
the initial GPU i wanted to buy was the R9 270X hawk edition from MSI

All said you need to find the right balance since you are building it for more than gaming. And while a SSD is nice short of booting the system after that it job is really done. So if I had to choose between a better GPU and more memory OR a SSD I would go with a better GPU and more memory to be truthful and I have been using a SSD for a couple years or so and love the speed boost it gives me. But at the end of the day that is all null and void if I do not have the memory I need or the performance in my games then what good is the speed of the SSD then? Just something to think about.

As far as shipping I am sorry I can't really help you out with that part either.
