Hey guys, I currently have a Dell Vostro 220s desktop and I'm wanting to upgrade the CPU for better performance. Mainly want to upgrade it so I can stream league of legends at high quality and play at high quality as well.

Could anyone suggest CPU's and inform me on how I would go about choosing one that will be good and compatible for my purpose?

This is a Vostro 220MT https://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=i&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=images&cd=&cad=rja&docid=mD4nkiQcqIAyMM&tbnid=mBwp_tWedCMRXM:&ved=0CAUQjRw&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.dell.com%2Fus%2Fdfb%2Fp%2Fvostro-220%2Fpd&ei=mKynUpTvJ4KK1AW3jAE&bvm=bv.57799294,d.ZG4&psig=AFQjCNEbyMTXveUu-MghASrjf_p8htxxkg&ust=1386806806157257

Yours is a Vostro 220s, which is a slim version.

Well you need to choose a case first.

Then you need to find a suitable power supply to go with the case.

Then you need to decide which CPU and motherboard you need.

Then you decide what RAM and hard drive you need.

Then you need to sort out networking cards (Wifi)

Then you need to sort out cooling (fans, heatsinks)

Then you need to sort out the operating system...

One thing is upgrade the GPU to a dedicated one and tell me your current CPU.

The best CPU you can install is a Core 2 Duo E8600 3.33GHz but apparently some boards can support a Core 2 quad but i can't confirm this.

Is your case a slimline?

Hey thanks for the replies. I forgot to mention that I already have a Sapphire 7750 HD in my computer. My current CPU (which is factory) is the Intel Core 2 Duo E7500 @ 2.93 GHz. And yes, my case is a slim one.

Are you sure? A handful of people have recommended that a CPU (and/or mobo--but i'm not upgrading mobo) upgrade would significantly boost my performance.

My main problem is that once I start streaming with the streaming program (and have the game running simulatenously), the game gets choppy, and I can only have my stream setting at a really low setting. So, my viewers are getting a really crappy quality.z

Also, I've got 3Gb of RAM, which is plenty, but I do plan on upgrading to 4 just for extra boost.

Well you,ve probably got one of the best low profile GPUs.

You might get a bit of a performace increase but it will still get choppy although other factors can contribute to this such as not enough RAM or a slow internet connection.

Thanks. I actually bought that card on a whim after someone on here recommended it for me. lol.

Anyway.. So, would you not recommend me upgrading the CPU? Btw, what's the difference between dual core and quad core? Would the quad core CPU perform at higher rates?

--edit, just checked prices for the CPU you recommended. There are a lot of used ones from 90%+ positive sellers on Amazon. Is that worth it? Brand new is $200.

A quad core is like 2 of your CPUs stuck together, it allows for more multi-tasking.

The only thing is, is that your comp doesn't support Core 2 quads, which is something i find a bit weird since the HP equivalent of your PC does...

The best thing you can do is either buy or build a new one which would probably worth the cost.

And no

Bleh. I was hoping I wouldn't have to hear that. lol. My desktop was kind of a like a hand-me-down one. I honestly don't think it's bad, but I guess it's not good enough either. I mean, I can play League of Legends and a number of other games on high quality really well, but it's just the problem with streaming and I kind of want to make streaming a hobby.

I've never actually built a computer from bottom up. I actually might consider building a new one though. Do you mind giving me some tips and pointing me in the right direction to get started?

Hey, this thread is actually the same as mine.. Sorry for repost. But another user says that the vostro 220s is compatible with quad core. http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/351519-28-dell-vostro-220s-upgrade

My max budget... I'm not really sure. How much could a medium high performance gaming rig go for? Maybe $800-$1000. I don't really have a "budget" per se. That being said, I'm not really looking for a beastly machine or anything. Just something I can game on and stream for a long time.

I mean, I've aleardy got the graphics card. Haha. So, that's a start.

Sort out what you want to do about your old data (transfering it from your old comp onto your new one).
