Question regarding network bandwidth and frequency

Hi, the other day I was setting up a router for a friend and there was a question that occurred to me. The router is dual-band so it supports 2.4GH and 5GH. But when connecting, the user is required to choose which one he wants to connect to (different SSIDs). So, being that I'm not expert, what happens if the user gives the same SSID to the 2.4 and the 5GH? Is that possible? Would the router assign which band to use?

Also, when a router says it goes up to 150 or 300mbps, and you're paying for 5 or 15mbps internet, does that mean that 150mbps and 300 aren't important? I mean, your internet only provides 15mbps. Or how does this work?

I cannot answer your question regarding SSIDs.

However, when a router or a modem states that it can support up to 150/300 Mb/s (megabits), that is how much that it will support up to. If you pay for speeds higher than say, 150 Mb/s, it the router/modem will not go above that.

But if you're paying for 15 Mb/s, that is all you will get, sometimes you will reach higher speeds depending on your modem and router. But regardless, you shouldn't worry about that part.
