The 7950 is still a really good card but upgrading to an R9-290 will increase your performance. What do you plan on doing with the 7950 if you plan to upgrade? Your best option is to sell your card and then use that money to help pay for the 290. There's also the option to opt for another 7950 and run CFX but Crossfire has it's cons as well.

Yea if i upgrade i was gonna sell my card for money towards a new one. It still runs pretty good... BF4 56fps avg on mostly ultra...just 2x msaa and the post processing below it off. But alright thanks for the input

i have the same card, and for optimum performance/fidelity in battlefield 4 i suggest
you turn off msaa and use post processing (low for best image quality) and then use
the supersampling slider...i dont know what's it's called actualy in the game but it's
on the bottom left... that slider should be pushed to 110% or 115% if you play at 1080p
you'll be able to put every setting on ultra and keep a solid 60 fps on any multiplayer maps

Image will look just as good as with msaa but less taxing on graphics card

you do not need/should upgrade your video card ATM unless you are a real fanatic
that want's the best then get a r9 290X...or if you could try to find maybe a used 7950
to run crossfire, that would give you the best performance...but sometimes just tweaking
with the settings a little bit will make the game run great and
beautiful, 7950 is still a great card and it has 3gb or vram...newer titles uses more
and more of it, and under mantle it will need even more...

But try upscaling the resolution a bit with BF4 instead of using MSAA it gave
me some very very good results...

I've had the exact same dilemma and the feedback here has been priceless. I love my 7950 and I didnt want to get rid of it unless I had to. The card does a lot of heavy lifting and Im surprised with the performance I get out of it. I also will apply the suggestions for BF4 to see if I can optimize performance. Right now I get excellent performance but I do have some problems running Mantle (pre-deployment screen flickers in loadout screen)

I was also planning on selling my 7950 and using the $$ for an R9. Or possibly get a second 7950 and go Crossfire. (But I always here about people having issues with crossfire and the drivers...or issues with games that do not support crossfire). So maybe I will jsut usee my card for as long as I can before upgrading.

To give you guys some interesting info. When I ran R9 290 versus my 7950 on Battlefield 4, at times I saw 10 FPS above with 290 on the minimum FPS of around 70, but I noticed 7950 maintaining higher FPS overall, and having dips to 57-60 FPS at most. Yet 7950 maintained higher FPS at the SAME settings. (I don't have everything set on ULTRA)

I play at 1440 x 900 resolution and my settings are custom, not ULTRA all over the board, some are actually set to High, Medium, Low and Ultra at the same time.

I've tested it in the same system, and I have to say one thing about R9 290: NOT IMPRESSED!

And I bought my 7950 for $200 (it is $300+ now), R9 290 cost me $479, which was returned immediately the next day.

So you make your decision, but trust me when I tell you this...I'm not impressed with R9 290 and the price does not match the performance. Wait until GPUs drop further after GTX880 release this year. Be smart about it.

I will hold off on upgrades for now too.

I get an unstable 50FPS on high textures, post process low and no msaa everything else high/medium with the same card 1080P no upscaling.
How are you getting much better?
