I have a desktop computer in my room (Compaq SR5433WM) connected to a Motorola SBG900 cable modem / wi-fi hotspot via a Netgear WG111v3 USB wi-fi dongle. I want to share my connection so that I can connect an Xbox 360 to the computer with a network cable and access Xbox Live through the wi-fi connection on the desktop. I'm using Windows 7, and when I try to share the wi-fi connection, I get an error to the effect that there is already a LAN connection with the IP address I need to enable the sharing.

Is there a way this can be done outside of doing a connection bridge? I'm told that bridging prevents the go-between device from using the connection while the device linked to it is using it.

You must assign a different subnet to the ethernet port outside the subnet you get from the wireless router. Most people use 10. if they are using the fairly standard 192.168.x.x addresses on the wireless. Microsoft has a excellent document that explains how to set up ICS on their site.

Still unless money is a huge issue I would not use a PC as a router. Get yourself a device that can act as a "client-bridge" these have lots of names but they were originally sold as "gaming adapters" to provide wireless to gaming consoles. They are also commonly use on TV that only have ethernet ports. It is way to easy to run something on the PC and glitch the network connection when you use ICS. Unless you leave the computer on all the time anyway I suspect it will not take real long to save the money in electricity
