So here is what is happening. I just upgraded cases for my 2 year old build. I got a fractal design XL R4. I put everything in the new case without any issues. The only new thing I got besides the case was 3 new fans. After I got it all put in the new case when I went to start it up it will shut down after a little while, Usually between 5-20 seconds. It will stay on if I hold the reset button but will not boot until I let go of it. I have checked the bootup checklist on here and everything seems to be good. Dont know about the CPU cooling though. I have no thermal paste so I cannot reseat it right now. What else could it be?

Solution

Hi,
First thing I would do is unplug the new fans. Then I would re-seat all of your electrical connections. Make sure all of your case front i/o connections are on the right pin. Make sure that the fan on your PSU is functioning, and if you have the option, set the PSU fan to always on. Then try turning it on again.

I think you said that Windows started up and then shut down. Is that correct? If so, were there any error codes? Can you check the temperatures?

It sounds like either an overheating problem or a power problem. It may be detecting an electrical fault. The on-board fan headers may be overloaded. Another possibility is that something in the bios is set wrong.
