Hey Guys,
I need some help here,
I've recently bought a Mac Mini i5 model and I have stumbled across thr "server" version, now I know you can also just download the program/app and run it on any mac (with performance differences obviously) but im curious as to what it does exactly, so would anybody be able to outline
What you can do with just a Mac Mini & OS X Server?
Any benefits of doing so?

Thanks very much, I understand this is quite a neewby question and I appreciate the help :)

In brief it allows you (or makes it easier for you) to run services such as FTP, HTTP, DNS, DHCP, Wiki, Open Directory, etc. It also allows you to manage networked Macs and iOS devices. A pretty good description of it here: http://arstechnica.com/apple/2013/12/a-power-users-guide-to-os-x-server-mavericks-edition/

If you don't already know that you need it then you probably don't. On the other hand, it is very cheap.
