Hi guys hope you can help.

About a couple of months I dropped my toshiba laptop on the floor and cracked the screen making the screen useless. When the laptop is switched I can only see flashing lights of different colours but no picture.

Anyway I found out that I could connect my laptop to my tv so I can see what I'm viewing via a vga to vga cable. It doesn't have hdmi by they way.

So the last couple of months I've been fine and my laptop has been working fine on my tv but now it just won't work. At first I thought it could be the cable but I have noticed that when the toshiba page comes right up at the beginning it works fine but as the computer starts to start up it just goes off.

I have looked on different pages and have seen that I can press the fn and f5 key but maybe I need to select something when they are pressed in I don't know but I can't see the screen to know what to select.

Anyway hope somebody can help as at this moment I can't afford to get it repaired or replaced.

Many thanks

do you have vista or se7en? if you do, try pressing Win+P twice , if nothing happens do it again, if nothing happens, do it again

this window will come up on the screen (you may not see it) and if you click win + p once you see what setting you have, if you click it twice, you change it to the next setting. keep trying up to four times. if it doesnt work, its not the problem that i think it is (but most likely it is.)

usually the pc will "reset" the "projector" ==> forget it if you disconnect and connect it a few times, so you had to switch back to have it display on "projector" instead of pc.
PS: make sure you run it on projector only and you should not have anymore problems
