I have an Onkyo TX-SR707 that has worked fine for four years. For the past three nights it has not been communicating with any of my speakers when I turn it on no matter what listening mode I set it on. the speaker display on the receiver is blank when this happens. The past two nights it has suddenly recovered the connection w/o my doing anything. So far tonight it has not. Any ideas what this could be or do I need to shoot this receiver?

The front panel display on most surround receivers is indicating the channels that the source is sending to the receiver not the speakers connected to it. If they don't light up at all there is nothing coming into the receiver from that source. Try another digital source (bluray). Also try using the radio since that is built into the receiver. To check this you can go through the speaker set up which will put pink noise into each speaker.

I have a TX-NR509 now with exact same problem... I can sporadically get some speakers to appear on frontdisplay if turning reciever on/off multiple times and get sound.. then 5-30 sec later the sound is lost.. factory reset does do it either. also show issues with NET function.
