Choosing new OS

I am building a completely new (also my first) gaming rig. I think I have most of the specs finalized, but I am having difficulty choosing an OS. My question is which OS to choose, windows 7 or windows 8.1? I have heard there are some minor performance increases (boot times especially w/ and ssd [duh?] ). I have limited experience with windows 8 but extensive windows 7 experience. I am very happy with windows 7 but because this is a completely new build is it worth the extra 8 bucks or whatever it is to buy windows 8.1 vs win 7?

Solution
I personally find windows 8 to be a lot better then windows 7 (not considering the "metro" UI). It is a more refined version of windows 7, and has more useful features. as someone else also mentioned, windows 8 will get updates before windows 7 (if windows 7 is to get them at all).

Also once you get used to the new UI of windows 8, you will realize its really useful and efficient.
