I Just bought a ASUS X79 Deluxe but I cant make up my mind on the ram it can take up to 2800 but I want to run 2400 without touching the processor. I want to add no heat to processor keep it on stock cooling and clock my ram to 2400 I also am looking at these two different ram types
what ram would you go with to accomplish the task most easily and effectively.

I would go with the redline as it is already at 2400 and you could over clock it to 2800 and there is not much difference in the price
but over clocking ram is one of them things you have to get right and I don't think I would over clock
1600 out to 2400 I just think it is to much stress on it but each to his own

so can I use the mushkin ram and get it to 2400 without touching my processor or will it not work. do I need XMP ram? to do this I don't think the redline is xmp

Any speed over DDR3-1866 (1 DIMM per channel) is going to require over-voltage to CPU VCCSA - which will increase heat somewhat (tho not as much as Vcore increases mv for mv).

Also, even XMP kits can need manual timing and voltage changes depending upon how good your CPUs memory controller is at overclocking (they are all variable).
