I first got the MSI GE60 0ND-042US around august and the webcam worked fine for skype, chat etc. But ever since I've upgraded to win 8.1, No program can even detect my webcam. I've been to the device manager->imaging devices and found there is not an entry for the webcam. Went to the manufacturer's website and no webcam drivers there, it just says that's already installed in the operating system. What can I do to get my webcam up and running again, I use it to talk to my girlfriend overseas. Thanks

Try following these steps from Microsoft...

To install updates from the manufacturer

Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, and then tap Search.
(If you're using a mouse, point to the upper-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer down, and then click Search.)

Enter Device Manager in the search box, tap or click Settings, and then tap or click Device Manager in the results.

Expand Imaging devices.

Right-click the camera that's having problems and tap or click Update Driver Software.

Tap or click Search automatically for updated driver software, and then follow the on-screen instructions. This might include restarting your PC.

Fixed a typo that might have confused you: The thing is I cannot find an entry under imaging devices, even if i show hidden devices.

I found this guide online, are you sure NOTHING is showing under imaging devices, even when "show hidden devices" is checked?

1. In Windows 8, got to the bottom left corner, right-click on the mini Start screen, and select Device Manager.
2. In the top menu, click on View and select "Show hidden devices".
3. Go to the Imaging Devices section and right-click on the grayed-out USB2.0 video entry (or the grayed-out entry that correponds to your internal webcam) and select "Update Driver Software".
4. Select "Browse my computer for driver software". Counterintuitive, but it's the right choice.
5. Select "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer".
6. Select Microsoft and USB Video Device.

When you're done, recheck your Device Manager entry under Imaging [D]evices. It should show up as "USB2.0 Camera". If it's still grayed-out, reboot your laptop.

nothing, I even checked all the other types of devices. I think I'm going to try SFC /Scannow to see if anything comes up.

Hi folks, i found a very odd one for you all, because i too noticed that my webcam, actually never worked, so i did some digging and apparently one if the big issues a lot of people have is when they test the laptops, they cycle through all the hot keys, and they dont necessarily make sure everything is turned on from the factory, kinda left me in the dark, i was looking around my driver disk to see if i could find it, couldnt find anything about it, there was nothing in my device manager that looked anything like it, and so i was about to give up, laying in my bed kinda defeated when my hand bumped the manual, it hit the floor (im not kidding either) and opened to a page called "hotkeys" and one of the first ones was web cam! on the MSI GT60 Dominator 2PC (my laptop) the hotkey is Fn+F6, and if you look at the F6 button, youll see it is actually an image of a web cam! Hope this helps!

I found out that Microsoft broke web cameras by installing the drivers but getting rid of 2 registry keys. Do these simple steps;

Open regedit from the Start menu.
Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows Media Foundation\Platform
Right click the Platform folder and select New > DWORD. Name it “EnableFrameServerMode”
Right-click the new value and select “Modify”
Enter “0" in the “Value data” field.
Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Microsoft\Windows Media Foundation\Platform
Repeat steps 3-5.

Should be just '0' because there are 2 datas and second one starts with 8 and when pressing 0 it makes 00(2 zeros)

Sooooo glad i came here and read this forum. My camera wasn´t even showing in device manager. Until I read this post, hit the Fn+F6 keys and it just appeared and is working fine. Thanks!
