graphic card not detected HELP

Hi, so i a have a XFX Radeon HD 7870 Graphics Card. i just got it a few weeks ago and im no pro at this computer stuff. But my problem is i noticed the computer didn't work to well, i played some games and the FPS is not that high so i asked my friend and he said it might be using the graphics card that comes with the possessor. and we checked and it was. so he said i need to install the software so i got the disc and put it in and when i open it it said something like we can not detect the XFX graphics card and etc. so i went to the main website and i found some stuff but it did not word! and FYI the fan is working.

Hello, I think I may have the solution to your problem. Firstly, when booting your PC, there will be a screen with the logo of the manufacturer of your motherboard. There will be text somewhere onscreen that says [insert key here] BIOS or boot manager or something like that. Press that key while booting to enter the BIOS. Search through the BIOS to find an option that involves your processor's graphics chip, and set it to off. Also, make sure you have whatever cable you are using to connect your monitor is plugged into your graphics card, and not your motherboard. The graphics card plugins should be lower than those of the motherboard.
