i have kingstong hyper blu 1600 ram but the computer detect it as 1333? and i was thinking buying memory gskill ripjaw 1600? are they compatible even their not the same manufacturer?

Solution

That's just the cas latency, Honestly it would work but it wouldn't run at its correct timings. Hence why we say buy sets instead of brand...

it all depends what you're doing. For the ram, you have to go through the bio to change it to 1600 instead of 1333, as for if you buy another stick you may run into compatibility issues (which is why we recommend buying in sets so they run the same timings ESPECIALLY if you run dual channel). otherwise what normally happens is the higher freq stick, drops down to the same speed as the slowest stick of ram in the computer.

no it still should be but it's timings will be off from what they were factory placed at, like lets say your kingston ram is 8-8-8-10 and the gskill is for instance 6-7-7-9, it would by default switch to a 8-8-8-10. But if you were to buy that gskill ram wihtout OCing the kingston, the gskill ram would default to 1333 speed and the default timings of the slowest speed stick (the kingston).
I don't know if it's on sale still or not but gskill 8gb (2x4 kit) was $50 dollars on newegg.

That's just the cas latency, Honestly it would work but it wouldn't run at its correct timings. Hence why we say buy sets instead of brand matching. If anything try to find another kingston stick like you currently have, or buy a set and keep the kingston as backup or sell it to a friend maybe?
