Are 4+4Pin CPU connectors compatible with an 8Pin CPU slot?

Hello everyone, today I received my z87-WS board + i7 4770k. I went to assemble everything to find out that the board had two 8pin CPU slots. I currently have a CORSAIR Enthusiast Series TX750 and it only has (1) 4+4 CPU connector. Now I am not to sure if that is compatible with the board as I did assemble it with all my other parts that I previously had excluding the 4770k and the motherboard of course. When I went to turn it on it turned off within seconds and I assumed that the 4+4 connector wasn't compatible.
Now I was looking for some additional help before I went and purchased a new PSU with an 8pin connector
I searched around, saw some other threads similar to this but none with this particular board ,thus the reason I'm making this thread :)
All help is appreciated, thanks in advance.

Solution
I found a review for this board claiming only one of the 8-pin connectors is required.
"Moving around to the upper left hand corner shows the two 8 pin power leads (only one is required)."
http://www.overclockers.com/asus-z87ws-motherboard-review/

If this is true, connecting the combined 4+4 pin connector to one of these 8-pin headers may be ok.
I can't find any clear answer to this in the motherboard manual.

Yes, the 4+4 connector on your power supply is intended to be used in the 8 pin connector up by the CPU. A good number of power supplys come with a 4+4 instead of an 8 because motherboards range from a single 4 all the way to 2 8s. It's easier compatibility for them that way. Which one of the 8s did you plug it into? Looking through the MB manual, it looks like you should be using the one farthest away from the cpu socket if you only have one 4+4 (or one 8)

The 4+4 pin connector on this power supply will work fine as one of the 8-pin power connectors required.
The problem is that you need two of these for this motherboard.
The TX850 has two of these connectors.
On top of that, they recommend you connect the 6-pin 12V_1 connector if using a high end or multiple graphics cards.

I tried both of them if I remember correctly with just a 4 and with all 8

Yes, that's what I was reading but I was just using a GTX 770 and I had both 8 and 6 pin connectors plugged to that but not the slot on the board

Yes, the book said that it was required to be plugged up or else it would not start but did not give much detail
Thank you all for your assistance, I will give this another shot later today. Hopefully my current PSU can power this bad boy but it if not I suppose I will have to get another haha
