I am looking for a new mechanical keyboard, specifically looking at the Cooler Master CM Storm QuickFire XT. On Newegg, it gives me the option between blue, black, brown and red. I need something that is comfortable for typing, but is also a good keyboard for gaming.

I have that one with the Blue cherry, I LOVE IT! The only thing that's hard to get used to is the size of the keyboard and that you have to turn off the numlock to use the arrow keys
For typing and gaming is such a great keyboard, I give it 9 out of 10 :)

Hi akruet227,

The type of the key really depends on what you prefer, please let me explain all the different keys.

The blue switches are light weight keys (50g activation) with a audible click together with a tactile bump when you press the keys.
The brown switches are medium weight keys (45g activation) without a audible click but with with a tactile bump when you press it.
The black switches are medium stiff weighted (60g activation) with linear switches (without feedback) and without a audible click when you press it.
The Red switches are very light weight keys (45g activation) with the same aspects as the black switches.

Now personally if you want it for gaming and typing I would prefer the browns, why? The brown switches have no audible click, what can be annoying for some people around you as example late in the evening or in the early morning, besides that when I get tired I noticed that I was suddenly pressing keys but these brown keys with a tactile bump prevents this.

So at the end it is still a very personal decision.

For more information about these switches I am referring you to the below link, everything is explained there.
