I currently run an AMD gaming rig (specs in my signature) that I feel I have maxed out. I was looking to get a new FX chip but the gains are minimal compared to the gain I would get by going i5.

I'm looking for suggestions for a new Intel motherboard? I just want it to work so I'm not going to run dual graphics so I am not looking to get a top end motherboard. I may overclock but only very lightly (likely using simple bios settings).

Cheers

Something like the Gigabyte GA-H87-D3H.
Gigabyte is a good brand.
B75 or H87 chipset is suitable to what you want (for Haswell CPUs, if you are getting an Ivy Bridge then this is a different socket).
MicroATX keeps the price down and suits smaller cases.
This board has 4 DIMM slots, so you can put two in now and add RAM later if required.
Avoid the H81 chipset as this does not support PCI-E 3.0.

Is there a big difference in gaming terms between a Hanwell and an Ivy Bridge?

Cheers for the suggestions guys.

I'd quite like to get away with spending less than 100€ (so around 80 pounds or 140 dollars) on the board but if I can make a saving on the CPU (currently looking at a i5 3350p) by going for an older Hanwell chip then I could push the boat out a bit more.

haswell is newer, pricier, slightly faster, less overclockable. ivy bridge is older, not much cheaper, slightly slower, not much more overclockable compared to haswell. :p

i couldn't find a core i5 3350p on scan.co. no luck on novatech.

found only one z77 motherboard under £80 (incl. vat)
gigabyte-ga-z77-d3h
i'm not surprised. inte has been phasing out ivb cpus.

on scan, core i5 3330 is £139 and core i5 3340 is £145~. using that as a reference, these two haswell core i5s can be close equivalent albeit with igpu and less overclockability:
intel-core-i5-4440 £137~
intel-core-i5-4570 £148~
mobo around £80~:
gigabyte-ga-z87-hd3
asus-z87-k
f.y.i., there are cheaper motherboards than these. recommendations are based on price.
p.s. links weren't working, so tried hyperlinking. if that fails, try search on scan.co using the model numbers.
