Difference between WD Black and WD Caviar Black

I decided to purchase 1 WD 1 TB hard disk for gaming. I am now confused with the WD Black and WD Caviar Black. Does these drives differ in their reliability and performance. Many of the toms community members prefer the WD. But which black should I buy, WD Black or WD Caviar Black. Thanks

The Caviar drive line was an older line of drives - I don't see any current drives (they appear to be replaced by the red, green, blue and black). The VelociRaptor are the highest performance line - personally, for standard spindle drives, the WD Black are the best....if you need higher performance, SSD is the answer.

I think they just dropped the "Caviar" from their description when they added the red line. I always thought it was a dumb name anyway.

Hi ronin, I read in a forum that the SSD life decreases with read-write cycles. So if I use this for gaming which requires frequent read writes and when each time a new game is installed GB's of data are deleted and written. So won't this wear out the SSD quickly. Thanks.

But the write-cycle's are like 50 million or something like that. SSD's are more reliable Than Hard drives

SSDs should be replaced as often as HDDs. If you're going to be afraid to use it because it might wear out don't buy it.
