Hello,

I've recently bought a GTX 770 and hooked it up today, i tried BF3 with fraps to see what can of FPS I can get with it and it's much lower then it was on my radeon HD 6790. Looking around 20-30 fps going as low as 5 fps now and then, Does anyone know why this might be? I have updated to the latest beta drivers for the GPU.

Pc specs are

PC specs

AMD Phenom II x6 1095T
2X2gb ram
Nvida GTX 770
500GB HDD
550W psu

Solution
Aha you see your PSU has two 12V+ Rails a common mistake. Each rail only has 28A where the 770 needs 42A... This could be your problem. Try to buy a PSU with just a strong single 12V+ Rail. Perhaps the XFX 650W. A great PSU imo.

Though you will probably see low fps after upgrading the PSU because of that horrid CPU you got there

Don't know why specifically it might be lower unless you've yet to install the NVidia drivers over the top of the Amd ones. Additionally with that processor and only 4gb of ram I'm kind of surprised you got more than that with the 6790. The gpu was not the bottleneck of your system which is why adding the new one won't help a ton.

Installed latest beta drivers, tried a different game (Final fantasy 14) and the FPS are jumping from 40 to 18 every few seconds. Again 6790 was hitting 60 constantly. This is on the same CPU i used with the 6790

Its a registry issue, which is what we are all pointing at, you can try to wipe out all traces of the amd software, or reinstall the OS. One final suggestion would be to ensure nothing got moved in the way and is causing heat to build up either on the processor or the gpu, could be thermal throttling basing it off the fps jumps.

As stated before, your GPU was not the bottleneck, yes it is odd you're getting lower FPS with a better card, but that isn't your major concern. You should look into buying a new CPU, motherboard, and 8GB (2x4GB) of RAM.

If you can't afford to go that route, I would sell the 770 so that you could upgrade and get a 760 instead.

He could be using some shitty PSU(lack of detail in his post) the gtx 770 does ask for a minimum of 600W and 42A on the 12V+ Rail... hmm maybe... His PSU is lacking the required amps. If that was the case I'm amazed it's even working.

Perhaps he has previous AMD drivers.

BIOS Update?

The Phenom II X6 1090T is pretty old and that's probably bottlenecking your, There is another post about this same question but on guru3d So I believe its your PSU.

I've completely uninstalled all amd drivers from my pc now and I'm dling the latest drivers for the 770 that isn't beta I'll try bf3 and see what FPS i'm getting. Would there be a way of checking if it's my PSU that is causing the issue?

Yea by telling the name of the PSU(the exact name) or taking a picture of the information panel so I can see how much Amps you got on the 12V+ Rail

dual rail is better than single one...newer psus have 2-4 rails now for stability purposes...
psu has nothing to do with low fps lol...low fps is caused by heat/viruses/windows or driver error...

low fps is caused by numerous amounts of things not only those you just listed. The PSU can be a factor as the GPU could be bottlenecking itself to bear with the low amount of amps, or the CPU could be bottlenecking the GPU, it is a pretty old CPU anyway. Im amazed he was able to power the 770 with that PSU.

imo a strong single rail is better than two why? because you have more amps on that single rail opening more possibilities. You right newer PSUs are creating more rails for stability but in the end all the rails are combined in terms of amps and such creating basically a single rail, however old PSUs with dual rail do not do this in which case pedromendez doesn't. don't lol me.. low fps like I said before is caused by countless reasons

Edit..
Take a look here: http://www.jonnyguru.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3990

And look at the "So there are no disadvantages to using a PSU with multiple +12V rails?" part of the post.
should re-consider your statement a bit

yerp. the bandwith of your CPU can't keep up with the bandwith of your 770 so your CPU bottlenecks it to keep up, my theory however I could be wrong

Yeah I was going to say something about that earlier but didn't want to resurrect a dying thread. But since the OP did I'll add to it... Bottlenecking doesn't mean it slows any part down. A CPU bottlenecked computer will just only run as fast as the CPU will let it, There is no way to upgrade a GPU and slow down the computer if everything is working properly. Not trying to be a smartass just wanted to point that out to you for the future.

All games running smoothly now apart from FFXIV which is still stuttering like absolute crazy. Seems as though there's an issue with the drivers on that game. Will have to stick to my gaming laptop for ffXIV haha.
