Allright, so scince I got this card (about I have this strange issue where it simply lags on intensive tasks. For example, MW2 goes down to 30-40 FPS, where normally it should run on the FPS limit of 91.

The way this is fixed, is simply by rebooting my system. The weird thing is, though, that it doens't work when I simply shut down and then immidiately start up again. I have to click the actual "reboot" button for it to get back to normal performance.
What also works, is when booting for the first time, I go into BIOS and then save and exit, causing it to go through Post again. This saves a bit of time compared to having to start up all the way and then rebooting.

Obviously, I do not want to keep doing this every time I boot, and if I ever decide on selling this PC, I don't want the next owner to face this problem.

Things I tried:
- Complete reinstall of Windows
- New PSU
- New RAM
- Enabling/disabling OC
- Installing latest (beta) drivers from NVIDIA
- chkdisk and sfc /scannow

System Specs:
CPU: i7 860 @ 2.80 GHz
GPU: Gigabyte GTX 660 OC 2GB
MB: MSI P55M-GD45
RAM: Kingston KTA-MB1066K2/4G
PSU: Seasonic G-550

PS. I checked if the card was downclocking with GPU-Z but this does not seem to be the case. Temps are fine too (<60C).

Is this happening wit only one game or all games ?

If it`s only one game then you must seek game fixes , Patches , NVIDIA driver fix etc.

On you place i`d run FURMARK for 60 min and i`ll keep eye on the FPS - drops or not .....

Just to be clear, the FPS drops on every graphically intense aplication.

Furmark 1280x720 no AA:
Cold: 49 FPS
Warm: 51 FPS
(I haven't ran it for 60 minutes but this is what it stabilizes at)

It's only a slight difference on Furmark, but it's a lot worse on many of my games.

Are you using the same driver that gave you 90fps?

i had that issue with my 660's, they would downclock randomly to 500 ish mhz, check with msi afterburner. would not go back to normal speed till reboot. workaround is to force constant clock speed with nvidia inspector batch files. TBH i got sick of workarounds with my 660's, and got something else.

Weird, I have never seen that with my 660Ti's.

Yes, it doesn't make much of a difference when I use different drivers.
I'll check the clock speeds and do a furmark when I get home today.

Allright, it took a while but I'm here with the results from Furmark.

Cold boot:
Furmark 1280x720 no AA no Fullscreen no OC
49-51 FPS (~50)
Clock speed: 1071 with jumps to 1163 MHz
Screen:

Warm boot:
Furmark 1280x720 no AA no Fullscreen no OC
49-52 FPS (~51)
Clock speed: 1045 with jumps to 1058 MHz
Screen:

Temps never exceed 60C let alone 80C...

I checked the clock speed with MSI Afterburner

It looks OK ..... that`s odd ......
If you Core clock is not jumping then it must not be performance drops ......
The only good option left is GPU BIOS upgrade :
http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=...

You actualy have high Clocks :
this GPU must have
Base Clock : 1032
Boost Clock : 1098MHz

and you say 1071 with jumps to 1163 MHz ....... !
try GPU bios upgrade

for me the problem only happened in particular games, not furmark. was most noticeable in crysis 2, dropped to 500 is mhz and wouldnt come back up without reboot or nvidia inspector. setting a constant clock with inspector fixes the problem. i tried all the bios upgrades etc and the problem still happened for me. nvidia inspector was the only fix.

I tried updating the BIOS with the VGA@BIOS utility from Gigabyte's website. I updated from F22 to F23, but there sadly is no difference in performance on cold boot.
However, on warm boot Furmark seems to be running at 53 FPS instead of 52.

So unfortunately this didn't fix my problem.
Does anyone have another suggestion?

I`m about to retreat this problem ........
Run MHDD - Hirens Boot CD HDD test - look for any warnings or errors in the lower right corner of the test interface
The only good suggestion is low HDD performance .....
You can use also CrystalDiskMark under WIndows
