Hi,

I received an used Samsung SyncMater 710n 17" LCD monitor and wish to use it as a 2nd monitor on my desktop which is using an on-board ATI Radeon HD 3300.
The main monitor is a 24" Acer H243 monitor.

After I have connected the 2nd monitor, the monitor always manage to flash momentarily showing my background picture before going blank, this happens whenever I change the display setting either through windows or ati control center.

During the initial testing to check if the monitor is working, I have managed to get both the screen on once when I switch the resolution of the 2nd monitor to 1280 x 1024.
Now, even after setting the resolution back to 1280 x 1024, the screen just flash and disappear.

Can someone advise what should I do / set to get the 2nd monitor to show up?

Thanks.

Thanks for the suggestion.

I have just tried this, but when I duplicate the view, my main monitor will switch to the lower resolution view and yet the 2nd monitor just flashes the background picture for a second and goes blank again.

I have also just checked my Control Center and it seems to be the latest verion.

Not sure if it matters, but I forgot to mention that I'm using the HDMI port for my main monitor and the VGA port for my 2nd monitor, both from the same onboard display output.

Thanks.

Sorry .... my bad .... I just check the online specs of my motherboard ..... it does not have the dvi port ....
I guess the DVI cable at home comes with the 24" monitor instead. :(

So sorry for the wrong info. :(

:(
Really?

But I really did manage to get both monitor up once.
When I wanted to test if I can get the monitor up, I place the monitor on the floor to test.
I have the same problem initially, but after I change the display setting, it manage to show both screen.
Was really happy back then and thought I was ready to setup the monitor properly.

After placing it on the proper place, it stopped working. :(

Will getting another graphic card helps?

Thanks .... I suppose it means that I need to get a graphic card that has both hdmi _ dvi output?
Coz I read somewhere that when I plug in a new graphic card, the onboard graphic card will be automatically disable?

But I will still try out some alternative before plunging into a new graphic card.

Sorry, I would like to asked a follow up question on this problem.

I do think that it is possible to resolve by configuration because I just managed to get it work for a session again. (In fact, twice)

I somehow try to duplicate the screen and notice that either the display driver or Catalyst Control Center think that both my monitor output is actually on the main monitor because when I try to identify a duplicate screen, both the 1 and 2 is shown on my main monitor.

What I did was that I uninstall the driver from the device manager (even though it is a generic monitor driver)
When I duplicate the screen, I managed to get both screen showing the same thing with the second monitor shutting off.
When I try to extend the screen, then the 2nd monitor went black.

On another try, I set my main display resolution to be lower so that it is the same as the second monitor, again duplicate the monitor.
This time I set the main monitor resolution to back to the monitor highest resolution and now both monitor does show up on it's respectively desirable resolution.
However, after a reboot, the 2nd monitor goes blank again.

Is it possible that Catalyst Control Center is causing the problem?
Note that all the above operations are done on the windows display setting rather than control center.

Can anyone advice on what is the likely cause of the problem?

Thanks.
