Just looking to see if anyone caught something I missed (better performing components, better combos, etc.), or just has better/more preferred setup suggestions.

Thanks!

the dh14 is nice but theres just as good aircoolers who arent as big and obstructive.

ill have to look in to it ive seen some good reviews of a few smaller coolers that are 2 degrees within the noctua dh14. tbh its good the dh14 but so massive that blocks ram and somethimes doesnt fit.

I would mention a few things:

With that video card and 3 HDD's I would elect for a more powerful PSU - 750W at the very least.

Also, you've got quite the budget there. Any reason why you choose an older generation CPU? In my opinion, you'd be better off getting the i7-4770K for only a few dollars more.

Finally, is there a specific reason for the 3X10K rpm drives? Are you going to RAID them? Do you need that much speed and space? You could consider buying a 3TB Seagate for $130 and the ~$500 you saved you can put towards a larger SSD - which will outperform that HDD RAID (depending on RAID setup). Just saying.

I see now the reviews for the Seagate HDD show quite a few failures...

Regardless, the WD Blue drives suck. I had a 1TB WD Blue and it was LOUD and SLOW. I spent hours trying to figure out why it was constantly thrashing, even though the OS showed no HDD activity. I built my wife a computer with the old components of my computer - guess which drive she got?

Not quite there just yet, age wise. Haha

I actually was revising and have gotten it down to 2300 range.

I've been hearing that a lot, about the PSU. Gonna start browsing in that range.

I'm actually trying to cut it down a little, but I've heard very good things from that CPU, whereas most people I know, as well as from a bit a reading around, seems like most people don't quite fully trust Haswell yet, and their heat tendencies. I feel very confident in the Ivy and it's not a terribly outdated bit of kit.

And actually, it's funny that you say that, because earlier I decided to ditch the Veli trio for just that reason (friend recommendation (I just heard very good things about the drives and got a a little too click happy)) so, I'm actually going with a Caviar Black 3TB and saved something like $550. I'm booting from that Samsung drive so, it was more for purely storage, which would be pointless to maintain that setup, I agree.

Actually didn't mean to select Best Answer (sorry), just meant to reply.

I actually have swapped out the 3x 1TB Velis for 1x 3TB Black, funny enough.

the nh d-14 is known to be one of the best aircoolers for cpus. the only drawbacks are its size and for some people the color for the fans.
