Erattic temps with new CPU

So I just fitted my new AMD FX8320 that replaced a Phenom II x4 960T.

Using the same cooler (hyper 212 evo) and thermal paste (MX4) I'm getting some jumping around in core temps.

Ideling its jumping from 9c to 21c and anywhere in-between many times a second.

Under load in Prime 95 it seems to stablise at 31c and doesn't jump around until I stop the workers...then it wil jump again 9c, 19c, 7c, 12c...many times a second.

Whats going on here? My Phenom never behaved like this??

Using a cheap MB with no heatsinks on the VRMs isn't smart. I used the GIGABYTE GA-78LMT-USB3 with my 8320 for a little while. Even though it has a heatsink over the VRMs, I still put a fan over it. I didn't throttle at all. Turn off turbo mode. Do that and put a fan over the VRMs should help a little.

Don't trust the temps till they get over 40c. The sensors just aren't accurate till that. The MB seems to be more of the problem to me though.

Hmm...seems to be in relation to core speed and voltage which is jumping around from 1400 to 4000Ghz and 0.8v to 1.45 v...even though this CPU is 3.5Ghz...and even though I disabled cool and quiet in the bios. I'm puzzeld!

Yeah I have the latest BIOS 1801 for my motherboard Asus M5A78L-M/USB3

Looking in CPUz, I see the multiplier is constantly changing along with the vcore....what should my setting be in the BIOS?

Anyone know what the settings should be in my BIOS Asus M5A78L-M/USB3?

I mean multiplier is jumping around even in Prime 95 stress test, lowering the speed? Should it be like this?

I see, I just assumed my MB would be ok with the FX CPU as I was overclocking my Phenom 960T to 4GHz with no issues at all.

SO was I better off performance wise with the Phenom @4GHz vs the FX at stock now?

What if I fit heatsinks to the VRMs and then try OCing the FX to 4GHz....I was also a bit confused by the 4GHz turbo rating of the FX, thought that meant it would OC to 4GHz no problem.

If I have to then the last resort would be to buy a new motherboard if the performance increase is worth it. I do a lot of sound recording in ableton and gaming with a 280x toxic. Was the Phenom better suited?
