Hi guys I have a server running windows server 2012 essentials that I store backups stream 1080p movies via dlna music and so on. now I need to buy a drive but I I cant decide between 1.seagate 3tb 7200rpm 64mb power uses 8.8W
2.seagate 4tb 5900rpm 64mb power 8.8
or
1.WD RED 3TB 5400 rpm 64mb Power 4.5W
2.WD RED 4TB 7200RPM 64mb power uses 4.5W

I will be using about 5 of these drives in the future so will power usage be a big difference ? and seagate drives 3tb seams is 7200rpm but 4 tb is 5900, and WD 4tb 7200rpm and 3tb only 5400rpm. So if I go with 3tb which do you suggest and with 4tb which you suggest and WD are really made for nas so do I really need them on a tower server? thanks guys

Solution
Any of them will do really if power is a concern then the red but for most it does not really matter. I use 2 x 2TB Seagate 7200 in my server.

Hi thank you for your reply seagate 3tb is 7200rpm and seagate 4tb is 5900rpm, Do you think I should choose the 3tb coz of the 7200 rpm?

You should get these: 2.WD RED 4TB 7200RPM 64mb power uses 4.5W. I have 25 of these running 24/7 no problems.
My friend had the seagate drives (both of them), and they died in 2 weeks. Then he got a new pair and those died in 3.5 weeks. Then he got he reds, everything is fine.

So, go with the reds.

Your friend is really unlucky since I have 8 Seagate drives currently and only one had to be RMA'd after 1week and that was 2 years ago!

I have had 200 WD drives 5 years running nonstop. (old 500gig drives for a big media server)
