At Christmas I'm getting a new CPU and I was thinking about putting my old one which is nt that bad into the one at my dads but would I have to take off the thermal compound to do that and add a new layer or would it be fine?

Thanks.

Anytime you remove the heatsink from the cpu heat spreader you really should clean both the best you can and re-apply fresh paste, otherwise there's gonna be air pockets and that's not good for effective cooling.
