So just some basic specs:
Radeon HD 7950 (not oc'd)
i5 3570k (not oc'd)
Z77A-GD80 motherboard
16 gb of ram

Usually when playing BF4 on high I was at ~70% CPU usage, but I just recently upgraded from a 1280x768 TV to a BenQ XL2420TE monitor and it has shot my CPU usage up to 85-90%. It has also been freezing my computer and displaying a pure red screen. 10 minutes ago I got a DSOD with the error code "BAD_POOL_CALLER" Could this be due to the increased resolution? Or maybe the latest "patch" from Dice? I idle around 10% usage (which is the same as the TV i was using) and it also only happens with BF4. Any help?

Edit: I tried changing the graphic settings from high to low in BF4 and it did nothing to help. Also I'm currently only running the monitor at 60hz, instead of the 144hz it supports.

Solution
look for driver fusion and ccleaner. and catalyst beta 13.11 9.5 on google and download them from phyxions, piriforms and AMD's websites.

install driver fusion and ccleaner.
go into control panel then add remove software and uninstall the amd catalyst software application and do an express uninstall, do not restart when prompted.
open driver fusion and select the amd tab and select clean at the bottom of the window then restart when prompted.
run ccleaner once you reboot and select clean on the file cleaner tab then select the registry cleaner tab and then scan and clean, do this a few times till no errors appear in the window to be cleaned.
then install the catalyst beta driver you downloaded and select custom install, when prompted...
you need to fresh reinstall your displaydriver and clear any driver remnants using driver fusion. also grab ccleaner.

download driver fusion from phyxion and get the latest catalyst beta drivers 13.11 9.5
uninstall the current amd driver and dont restart.
run driver fusion and run the amd driver cleaner and then restart when prompted.
run ccleaner file cleaner then the registry cleaner multiple times till it finds no more errors.
reinstall the beta driver as custom and only install the display and hdmi driver and untick everything else that you can untick.

should help, has helped others.

Sorry for my stupidity, but is there any way you can give more of an explanation? I don't mess with my hardware much, and i'm not sure what i'm doing half the time.

cant get any simpler.
