This is what happened:

Bought a new Samsung 120gb SSD EVO, installed it on my SATA 3gb port (asus ph867-v motherboard). Installed Win 7, etc, etc

THEN i realised i had a SATA 6gb port (two, actually.... im such a noob).

But when i tried changing disc to the other port (from sata 3 to sata 6), it wont detect it.

Do i have to format the SSD again? What can i do?

THANKS!

Solution
Changing from a slower to a faster Intel port should not be an issue at all. It should work just fine from a compatibility standpoint.

This is really sounding like a cable or physical connection issue. Check your cables.

Good luck!

No, when i change it from SATA 3gb port to SATA 6gb, it wont appear in BIOS.

It only detects the DVD unit.

I just checked. It seems that all the ports are enabled, no marvell controller (at least it doesnt say anything about marvell on BIOS or in the manual).

The 6gb port appear, but when in AHCI mode, none of the 2 detect the SSD.

Dont know what to do

Not, 1st i put it to AHCI and then installed the SSD in that mode (i read that was the best way to do it).

when i tried, only 1.

I took off all my other drivers. Then installed the SSD.

Put AHCI mode in BIOS, installed Win 7 without any issues. Installed the MB drivers, the graphic drivers and THEN realised i had a SATA 6gb port lol.

Disconnected the PC, and changed from blue port SATA 3gb to grey port SATA 6gb. And it stopped working, stopped detecting the SSD.

Did you try the second grey port or another SATA cable? Also, make sure that the SATA cable (and power) are still firmly connected to the SSD itself. They are very easily dislodged and will cuase similar problems (not recognizing devices).

I will try with a different cable cause i didnt yet.

So i take it shouldn't be any compatibility issue when changing a SSD from a SATA port to another.

Yet another update...

I ended up wiping the SSD, installed it on SATA 6gb port... and NOW it worked (im using it right now).

But now i have another issue, when i connect my old HDD (its doesnt have an OS, just programs, Steam games, etc) the PC stops working and it wont boot again!
