Can I use any Dell reinstall disk after replacing hard drive?

1. The HD on my 2+ yr old Dell XPS 9100 died. It went into the trash.

2. I bought a new HD, but do not have the Dell reinstall disk (thought I did, but can't find it). This would be an all-new, clean install of the Windows 7 OS on a new blank drive. (Had Win 7, want to put Win 7 back on.)

3. I can't get anything from Dell because the computer is out of warranty and not on their "Direct USB key" compatibility list. (I went round and round with Dell's website and couldn't get it to sell me a hard copy or download digitally. The desktop is registered in my Dell account.)

4. The XPS 9100 hardware is still the factory setup from dell--except I added a second internal HD and put in a Blu-Ray reader/DVD burner drive.

So my question is... can I buy another Dell Reinstallation disk for Win 7--from some source other than Dell--and use that to reinstall Win 7 using my original, legal Windows code (on the sticker on the back of my computer)?

(If yes, is there anything else I need to know about for reinstallation?)

I'm not looking to circumvent the law or MS user agreements. I just don't want to pay for a full retail copy (approx $200) if I don't have to. Nor do I want to buy an OEM version (approx $90) if I don't have to. Not if I can use a Dell Installation disk from eBay (approx $20).

Thanks.

No problem, it will cost you nothing! Download the same version of Windows 7 from DIGITAL RIVER, which is Microsoft's online agent and burn a DVD from the downloaded iso image. Reinstall, load drivers, update Windows updates, then activate using your OEM key. 90% of the time it works online, otherwise I just use phone activation and never have an issue.

Now you have a little extra Christmas cash. :D

This I am hesitant to try too...I have a similar issue. I have a legal Dell Latitude e6430, with a legitimate COA sticker. I do not have a reinstall disk when I got the computer. I do have a Dell reinstall disk, Windows 7 pro 64 bit, which is the same software that came with the Latitude and matches the COA sticker, which I got off eBay for about $20.
I'm hesitant to use it because I don't know if I'll run into registration issues. Again, my computer is legal as well.

Nope, no activation issues -- if it won't automatically activate, phone activation is simple and you will have no problem with Microsoft. I've done it many times and rarely even have to talk to a person.

I buy a lot of Dell laptops and always delete all partitions, reinstall from the same Windows 7 OS ISO without the Dell crapware and then activate, never a problem.
