I recently purchased a Seagate 600 240GB SSD
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820248016
and needed some help walking me though the installation. I currently have Windows 7 Home Premium installed on my PC's 500GB HDD and was wanting to use the HDD for storage and place the OS on the SSD. Will I have to change some of the settings in the BIOS and will I be able to boot windows from the SSD even though I have it stored on the HDD?

Disconnect your HDD (and all other storage devices if you have any) with only the SSD connected, then run the disk. This guarantees you'll be installing it onto your SSD. Once it is installed on your SSD, you can go ahead and connect your HDD (and other storage) after it finishes. Make sure you set the proper boot order to your SSD once you've installed it. When you're sure everything is working fine, you can go ahead and delete the OS from your HDD. I'd recommend formatting the entire HDD once you've installed the OS on your SSD (after backing up the files you want from your HDD to a USB drive or something).

I will remove the HDD from my system and install the SSD then when booting from my windows disk for the first time open the BIOS to check the boot order and change the controller to AHCI? Also I remember when I installed windows on the HDD I was asked about formatting the drive? Will I be given this option again as well

I added an SSD to my system and what worked best for me was to disconnect all the drives but the SSD and the DVDRW. I installed the SSD on my SATA 3 port 0 slot and the DVDRW on my SATA 2 port 0 slot and went into bios and set the boot sequence as DVDRW then SSD. I then installed Windows then loaded all the drivers. Then I did all the updates for windows and the motherboard drivers. then set a restore point. Then I connected 1 drive at a time and fired up the computer. Detected them in Bios until all my drives were installed. I then went in to the Admin service and then the hard drive section and removed the old windows system and reformatted that partition. I had move all my document and personal files to another directory from my document folder, including my bookmarks. I later moved my Download folder and the "my documents" folder and page file that was created on the SSD to one of my hard drives. I like to keep my SSD lean and mean. Good luck!

No problem! Glad it all worked out.
