subject pretty much is the question, reason why i ask is because some tell me that windows 8.1 will take care of all the drivers i need for my build and there is no need to download from the asus website or cd. others say no you must download from asus website. i am also confused because on the asus website, windows 8.1 menu does not include a chipset driver, along with a few others, but the windows 8 drop down menu does. i figure this is because there was no needed driver update for 8.1 for certain drivers, but i am unsure since this is my first time doing all of this. should i throw the drivers asus has listed for windows 8 on a usb for when i do my build and then download whatever they have listed under 8.1? or just let windows do the work and no need for worrying about it

thanks everyone

Win8 will update with basic, generic driver, they won't load the specific drivers that Asus has written for their mobos, and you might even end up with drivers that won't work, always best to get the latest from your mobo website - not a bad idea to check that you have the latest BIOS also
