A few days ago my HDD arrived for my new computer. I was unable to put it in my PC until this morning, due to being busy.

I set it up and turned my pc on. I have my OS on my SSD, so everything booted up as fast as ever. However, it didn't show up anywhere. I checked disk management and the bios, and it didn't show up. I'm certain I put it in right, did I just get a defective one? It makes no noises, it wasn't dropped and it was barely touched. Any ideas what to do now?

The bios is the first place to look. If its not showing there its likely drive manager wont see it either.
If the drive is larger than 2.2TB, check with your motherbd manufactuer to make sure these large drives are supported.

If this is an OEM hard drive (ie - not a boxed retail edition) make sure the jumpers are in the default locations.

First swap the power cable with a known working device. Try another data cable and plug it into a different sata port. power up the pc, you are looking to feel a vibration start on the HDD with one hand. the other hand should be ready to press the Del key to get into the bios. No vibration = dead drive. Vibrating means the drive is getting power and has spun up the platters.

If the drive is...

If the drive is spinning then Boot into the bios. Make sure the port you are on is not in raid mode and that the controller is enabled. You will need to consult your motherbd manual if you are not familiar with your bios.

If the bios now see's the drive and drive manager doesn't, some motherbds have more than just the chipset sata ports. These often need drivers loaded into windows for the drive to function properly. You can get them from the manufacturers download page for that motherbd.
