I just built a new machine with a uefi motherboard. It comes up fine and I can find the DVD and HDD in the bios but it won't boot to the windows 7 that I already have on the drive. Do I have to reload Windows, or is there something I'm not seeing?

Solution

Yes I did, thanks. I found that I had to reinstall windows for it to work. I was able to put it on in either MBR or GPT. Either way worked fine.

Is there more than one HD in the system? If so make sure your boot priorities have the HD with the OS on it first. Secondly if this is a completely new system (like chaged from AMD to Intel or the other way around) it might not have all the drivers required and may need a fresh install of windows.... its recommended to have a fresh install anyway since all of the chipset drivers from the old system will be wrong.

Yes the build I'm updating from was an AMD and now it's an Intel. I have the drive first in boot order, but when started it simply won't boot to the drive. It gives me a blinking cursor as though it's planning to and then puts me back on the bios splash screen. So new install of Windows, huh? Does it need to be 64 bit?
