After looking around, I've decided on getting a AMD 7700,7790 or a 7850 most likely. The 7870 is just pushing the price tag and defeating the purpose of me trying to save money.

After looking through everything with these cards, the 7700 seems to play most new games at low above 70 fps and a lot of mid- level games at medium.

The rest following it seem to be slight upgrades, but the 7850 being only 40 dollars more seems like a better investment than the others.

Which should I get? I'm at most looking to play most games on steam or from a local retailer at medium graphics and mid resolution. I know going more expensive(after research) usually means better performance, but since I dont need 1900 res with ultra graphics; what should I get?

Solution
Assuming you are at 1080p a 7850 will serve you well with the 7770 coming in second due to the 7790 having funky price/perf. The r9 270 is an AWESOME deal for ~$150, as it is just a 270x with lower clock speeds and a 270x is just a 7870.
