why did AMD raise the price of the 280x to $400 dollars. it is a rebranded 7970 ghz and the GTX 770 now costs about $330-400 (dollars depending on if you get that titan cooler so you can overclock and still hear almost nothing.)
I really want to upgrade to a 280x and was going to until I saw the $100 price jump. Now my faith in AMD is shaken they are charging more for a card than the 770 which gives better frames in non-amd optimized games.

is the price going to become reasonable again?
Are they pinning everything on mantel being the next big thing?

I am currently using only 1080p and maybe 1440 in a year or two so I think that the 290 might be a bit overkill

The prices have jumped because of the sudden Bitcoin rush. I've had a few customers ask me where to buy a R9 280X right now; and to tell you the truth it's been a challenge (especially because of the holiday too). That said, I was able to find one for him on CDW yesterday. If you can't wait, I think the best thing to do at the moment is to setup email notifications/alerts at your preferred etailer (i.e. NewEgg, Amazon, TigerDirect, etc).

I agree with Corvetteguy1994; if you can wait.
