Could I have shocked my motherboard or GPU?

Okay, I realize that I am completely paranoid, but I just want to make sure. I am building a system this weekend, just waiting for my parts to get here from newegg. Yesterday, my GPU (GTX 780) and motherboard (MSI G65) got here. Like a fool, I wanted to inspect them. I opened up the 780 and touched the shroud of the cooler, and I also touched a heat sink on the MOBO. I have carpet in my room, and was barefoot. Today, my friend told me to ground myself before touching anything. I had no idea about this. Is there a chance I killed my components?

Your concern is correct, it doesn't take much amp to fry the parts, DID it happen? We don't know till you breadboard to confirm the parts work. Also notice the BAG they came in "STATIC DISCHARGE BAG", there is a reason for it. Normal precaution is to have a clip with a wire wrapped around your wrist clipped to a ground metal surface or the computer case. This ABSOLUTELY ensure grounding to avoid the % chance of you possibly doing that very thing, static discharge.

Too be honest I highly doubt it. When I usually do something with my computer I am wearing socks(Not safe, I know)

I mean did you test if the parts work, or are you just worried.

No I didn't test them, I'm building it this weekend, I'm just worried. I've heard horror stories of people shocking their expensive components. I think I'll be fine, but I wanted to see if anyone else had done the same thing and broken anything.
