I purchased the following components as an upgrade to a 10 year old system.
1 x ($89.99) AMD FX-4300 Vishera 3.8GHz (4.0GHz) Socket AM3+ 95 $89.99
1 x ($84.99) SAPPHIRE Ultimate Radeon HD 6670 1GB 128-bit GDDR $84.99
1 x ($79.99) MSI 970A-G46 AM3+ AMD 970 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX A $79.99
1 x ($69.99) Thermaltake TR2 TR-700 700W ATX 12V V2.3 & EPS 12V $69.99
1 x ($49.99) Team Vulcan 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 $49.99
I also have two hard drives one a 256gb and another a 500 gb from my old computer hooked up via sata, and a basic dvd drive that was recycled from the previous build as well.
Here is my issue, I got all of this put into the case and turned it on, everything seemed to power up but I received no display on my monitor. I confirmed at that time though that psu and cpu fans were running, as well as the three case fans I have connected.
I did a bit of troubleshooting and found I had made a newb mistake of not plugging in the 8pin ATX power connector. So I plugged this in and tried booting again. This time case fans started, psu fans started but cpu fan did not. Still no data sent through to the monitor.
So I unseated my ram, and then reseated a single ram stick, also reseated video card. Still no cpu fan turning and still no data sent to monitor.
I then tried resetting the cmos by both the jumper and the cmos battery, I tried removing the hard drives and all other components other than psu, cpu, and motherboard, but I cannot get the cpu fan to turn. I checked the header and the cpu fan is plugged in correctly. I have not tested another fan on this header or this fan on a different header.
More interesting though now after my last round of troubleshooting, I have no video card, no ram, in, just the base components and I am realizing that I am getting no post beeps whatsoever, everything I have read says I should be getting three beeps for improper memory. Also now after I plug in power cord and flip switch to on the case fans begin to pulse (and blue leds begin to blink rythmically), the psu fan begins to turn, the cpu fan does not turn, I hear no sounds, and I cannot get it to turn on or off via the front power connector.
I am lost at this point and I could not find anything on google that directly mirrored my experience.
If someone could lend me some guidance I would be greatly appreciative.
