So I was looking at monitors, and I am so split. I am a gamer (mostly MMO but I do have some FPSs in my collection), but I also do visual design, and will use a monitor for everyday use and movies. So I'm working on getting the parts for my new custom PC, and I want to know 60 Hz vs. 120 Hz; seeing as I fall straight in the middle of which suits which (60 Hz, which I will use an IPS panel for if I decide -visual design and everyday use centric, and 120-144 Hz, which will obviously be a TN panel -gamer-heavy but lacking in colors and angles), I'm having huge difficulties as to what monitor I want. I also don't care about response time, as all the monitors I am looking at have 5ms or less of response time, which is perfect for me. I have been looking at:

Asus MX239h (IPS, 60Hz) - http://www.asus.com/Monitors_Projectors/MX239H/
LG 23EA63V-P (IPS, 60Hz) - http://www.lg.com/us/monitors/lg-23EA63V-P-led-monitor
Asus VG248QE (TN, 144Hz) - http://www.asus.com/us/Monitors_Projectors/VG248QE
Benq XL2420TE (TN, 144Hz) - http://www.benq.us/product/monitor/xl2420te/

I'm very stuck between these four. Also, I will have a dual monitor setup, so that might change things. Maybe I might have a tri-setup in a year or so, but for now, 2 will do for me.

Thanks!

while 120hz is fine (i have 120hz), in your situation i think its better to go IPS. 60hz is not bad anyway.

on a side note, that benq is very good based on reviews.

get the ASUS 144. even in everyday usage things will seem smoother ( non-gaming ) some people will argue about that but if you use a 60 and go to a 120/144 and you go back to 60 you'll know right away.

But still, the viewing angles and color definitions are poor on a TN. To me, that is a big deal, considering that, when I watch movies and videos, I have the hugest tendency to slouch. Even sometimes when I'm not watching movies I will slouch (but never when I play games). I don't know; it's such a tough decision!

And then again, I want a high refresh rate, because I do play some fps's; I'm not a pro, but I am competitive in BF3 and BF4. I do pretty well in both.

Also, I play BF3 and BF4, at the moment, on the Xbox 360. I go positive for the most part, and I play on a 50" Samsung LED flatscreen (I know, lame, but I'm getting a custom PC soon, which is why I'm asking about monitors). Does the XBox 360 max out at 60 Hz?

so when you're playing BF4 on a 60 Hz monitor and getting your ass kicked because other players are using a higher refresh rate monitor................ how are you going to compete with that?

just googled and found this............. watch it........... think it's BS? I don't.

while 120 is smoother, as long as you can maintain 60fps, then you should be ok (i play bf4 too).

So I decided to go with the VG248qe, and to complement it in my dual monitor setup, I got the VS248H, which seems fine to me; although it's not IPS, whatever it is, it seems like it has great definition and color. It also has the same form factor and screen size, so bonus! Thanks everyone!
