Upgrade path: Intel or AMD?

Hi there,
I currently have an Intel i5 4570 and an MSI B85-G43 GAMING motherboard bought as a bundle and will be getting an AMD R9 270X or R9 280 sometime this month. So I've been reading things about AMD's Mantle API and how it could improve performance on AMD hardware and thing is, I currently have the option to swap my processor and motherboard to an AMD FX 8350 and a select ATX motherboard via my local retailer (A friend works there). I've built this rig as an alternative to the new consoles for gaming, and a lot of people tell me that the FX 8350 would be better in the long run because of AMD's API and the fact that it can overclock (although I don't think I would take advantage of this too much) and has a longer socket lifespan, which always helps when upgrading. I'm a little worried that my i5 4570 won't be as future-proof as the FX 8350.

But here's where things get interesting, another friend told me to hold on to my current components, save some money, and when the time comes, sell my i5 4570 and get one of these:

Essentially an i7 but without the integrated GPU and overclocking abilites he said. I'm kind of leaning on the Intel upgrade path slightly because I like the Intel chipsets / motherboards better (Weird reason, I know lol)

What do you guys think? Thanks!!

Here are some other relevant info.
Specs:

Mantle will only affect AMD GPU's and will have no impact on the performance of the CPU. You have a good strong CPU and the socket should be good for 1 more generation (Broadwell). Intel tends to change sockets every other generation. I read a news article stating that AMD is looking at changing sockets, so AM3+ is not a sure thing for future upgrades.

As for the GPU, the 280X is a rebranded 7970ghz edition, but at a better price. We don't have direct numbers, but the performance increase from mantle could be up to 10%, if my memory serves me, but if nVidia decides to embrace it (unlikely), it would even the playing field once again.

If i were you, i will stick to my cpu, its still a powerful cpu and it can outperform the 8350 in gaming, amd by the way might retire the am3+ after they release the upcoming streamrollers, the only thing that I will change is the psu, I also have that psu before and it exploded, buy a nice gpu like 760 or 770 and youre ready for the next gen games.
