So I have a system
Cpu phenom ii x4 955
500gb sea gate hd
Asus hd 7870
2 4 gb jigsaw ram
Psu corsair cx430

The question I have is my gpu requires 2 6pin connectors and my psu only has one with that set up and no overclocking would I be safe running a molex to 6 pin connector for my other 6 pin

More about : psu problem asus 7870

I think you are safe

The total system draw in a game is just under 300 watts .

but I do not think this is a smart idea .

no, the card needs both 6pin power connectors to work, i have a 7870 and it will not post without both connectors, they are there for a reason otherwise the card would come with just one.

You are correct it needs two 6 pin connectors , but the OP's question was can he use an adapter from a 4 pin molex to provide the second power connector . And yes he can .

Ideally this build should use a 500 watt psu as a minimum , so you get a good working life from the psu and it runs quiet and cool .
With 28 amps on the 12 volt rail the CX 430 will run this computer but will be running at its limits to do so
