Well future proofing something isn't something that is truly realistic. In my opinion if you are looking to push yourself to last the next few years you are best off getting the best graphics card you can afford. You will at some point be able to upgrade your CPU. Heck if you got to the point where you needed to do that you could go with a 8350 and be done with it. But for now I would say something like 280x, 290 (non x), or a GTX770 would be a good option for you. 2-3 years is a long time though keep that in mind but the higher end the card the longer lasting the card to keep that in mind.
