With an older install my first thoughts are Malware/virus infections or possible driver conflicts.
So, first off, run a full virus sweep then a malware sweep, note, malware is not usually picked up by AV software for that you'll need some specialist anti malware software (just Google "anti malware" or "malware removal").
Then do a clean install of the latest WHQL drivers for the graphics cards. Don't just overwrite, but do a full uninstall and then remove any leftover files/folders before installing.
If you have installed/uninstalled a fair few programs in the last year or so it might be a good idea to download and run a copy of Ccleaner to clear out the registry. It's also an excellent way to keep your internet cache and temp folders...
