Yeah, you'd need an AM3+ board. On that budget probably a 990FX board, like a M5A99X or a GA-990FXA-UD(3,5,7). However a 970 board like a M5A97 R2.0 or a GA-970A-UD3 should be capable enough.

Out of the two optioms, if its purely for gaming, I'd recommend the i5 4670k. If you're looking to use multi-threaded apps (video editing, rendering, 3d modelling, streaming) then go with the FX which is still great for gaming. Some newer game devs seem to be leaning towards more cores too, but we'll see. Both are beasts.

I haven't bought a motherboard yet, and I copied most of that build. Didn't mean to leave the Intel Core in there, don't plan on using that.

hey Jook-D, the only editing I really do is on Fruity Loops (Fl Studio), which on my current build (which sucks) lags a lot when opening vsts and loading presets. So would the AMD be helpful in that case?
