I have a ASUS p5n-d motherboard and a nvidia gtx 460 1g and Intel 2.6 GHz quad core CPU. With a 1Tb hard drive and 8 gigs of ram. Its an alienware set up I paid way to much for about 4 years ago. I already bought a gtx780 classified and a 850w corsair power supply just in case my old one couldn't hack it. They will be here tomorrow. Question is...should I even bother with upgrading the cpu? Which also requires a new mobo and memory because my old stuff is ddr2. If so can i get some recommendations for the motherboard. This is strictly a gaming rig and is hooked up to my dolby digital receiver. So the capability to produce surround sound in games is a must.

Well I would install the PSU and GPU. Then test the games you play. If you are not getting the performance you want/expect then go for a CPU Motherboard Ram upgrade. But check out the performance you get with the hardware you already got first. Depending on what you want to play you might be OK it is a quad core and even though the speed is alittle on the low side today does not mean it will perform badly for you.

I am running skyrim almost at max settings with enb and it runs between 30-50 frames a sec. But it hiccups still. Thats why I am getting a new video card. As far as the motherboard goes i think i have it narrowed down to two.
GIGABYTE GA-G1.Sniper M5 LGA 1150 Intel Z87 SATA 6Gb/s uATX Intel Motherboard

can i get a little advice as to which one i should get? Or is there something better for a gaming rig in the same price range.

Thanks bryonhowly. I took your advice and just held out. As it turns out i didnt need to upgrade anything. It runs that splintercell game' i got free with it, on full setting without a hitch. I dont even see a screen glitch. This video card is absolutely amazing. The smoke looks so real i thought my tv was burning up lol. It was a bit buggy and glitchy the first few days but seems to be running like greased lightning now. Thanks all for your helpful comments
