I've been directed to this site for quite sometime for answers through google searches and this

community is remarkable. I now have a question that i can not find the answer to, a small inquiry.

I have a Gigabyte x58a-ud5 and have 3x4gb corsair dominator but removing the module in slot 2

a few times to install a new cpu cooler i fear i either damaged the module of the DIMM slot

because i was getting a RAM related error on boot up and the pc kept rebooting itself ( i cannot

remember the name of the error for the life of me) so i removed that module running only 8gb

and everything's been fine since. My question is I ordered a new set of RAM sticks

8Gx2|PATRIOT PV316G160C0K R, can i bypass slot 2 and install the 2 new stick in DIMM slots 4

and 6? RAM has to be installed in either 1,3 and 5 or 2,4 and 6 correct?

I hope this is posted in the correct category.

Thank You for any input, and hope to become a part of this wonderful community.

Solution
You can leave only 2 sticks in, but memory and general system performance will suffer, no, use XMP, it will do it better for you to get optimum settings.

Do you have any suggestions? Would be much appreciated. I dont really know the detail of ram like timming and voltage and I dont like screwing with the bios. I want to update it but dont want to screw anything up.

Yes, thank you. I've been doing quite a bit of research on memory and believe to selected the right kind:

CORSAIR Vengeance 12GB (3 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model CMZ12GX3M3A1600C9

I do have two question though. I've removed 1 of the 3 sticks as stated above, now how does that work? Is is ok to leave in 2 of 3 sticks in slots

3 and 5? Is that hurting anything? Second, when the new RAM arrives I really DO NOT wish to enable the XMP profile to have it run at 1600mhz, im

fine with it @ 1333mhz but can i leave the xmp diasabled with it @1333mhz but just change the timming to 9-9-9-24 if its not set correctly?

Thank You
